Uggs – the History of Cozy Boots
Uggs boots are not a new invention as many people tend to think. Even though they have never been as popular as they are now, these cozy boots have been in style for more than 25 years.
Probably anyone who owns Uggs will agree that they are the most comfortable as well as the warmest boots they have ever had.
The Ugg Australia boots go back as far as 1978 when an Australian surfer brought some sheepskin boots to the Californian surfers in the United States.
In 1995 Deckers acquired Ugg Australia. The boots didn’t become very popular right away. In the beginning the company only offered 2 styles of cozy boots, 4 slippers and a couple of other casual items.
In 1998 Ugg Australia became a high-end luxury brand. Nordstrom became the first online dealer of authentic Ugg boots. Uggs popularity continued to grow slowly, but steadily and in 2003 Uggs boots were named the footwear of the year.
Uggs can be worn all year around, because sheepskin keeps your bare feet close to your normal body temperature. They keep feet warm in winter and cool in summer, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone to see people wearing Uggs on the beach. Sheepskin also keeps keeping your feet dry, because it allows air to circulate and helps wicks moisture away.
Uggs boots are very durable if you treat them well. It is recommended that you use water and stain repellent before wearing the boots because most of the are not waterproof.
Classic Uggs (or so called cozy boots) are not the only style available these days. Some Uggs boots and shoes are very elegant; some are made of leather (not suede) or nubuck leather. These cost a bit more but if you don’t want to be dealing with cleaning suede, a few extra dollars are worth the investment.
