Online stores as well as eBay are bloated with handbags which are labeled as “designer inspired”. They are extremely popular due to its style and, of course, price. But what exactly are designer inspired handbags? Is this just a fancy way of saying “fakes”?

Well, as you probably already know, designer inspired bags were not created or made by famous designers. “Inspired” in this case means that a cheaper manufacturer borrowed the design from famous designers and created a bag similar to the original. In some cases they change colors, or small details, so they cannot be blamed for stealing someone’s idea.

Designer inspired handbags can be damaging to business for original designer handbags, but they are an answer to prayers of many budget fashionistas, who cannot afford to pay $500 for a Loius Vuiotton bag, but don’t mind spending $50-75 for a similar looking one.

Designer inspired doesn’t have to mean “fake”. Think of it as trendy instead. High fashion designers are the ones who set the trends on what is fashionable each year, so technically, if huge hobos are in style, it means that the top designers made it happen. Therefore, all huge hobos which are sold at stores can be called “designer inspired”. Which does not mean that they are fake.

You should be safe when buying so-called designer inspired handbags, clothing or shoes at reputable online stores. However, I personally would stay away from buying stuff in the streets, because the quality as a rule is pretty poor, so you will end up replacing your bag away much sooner than you would like.

I love eBay, but you have to be careful with it as well. Look at people’s feedback (the higher the better), read the description of the item carefully and don’t be afraid to ask for extra pictures.
